All members of The Victory Electric Cooperative Association, Inc., receive a complimentary copy of the Kansas Country Living magazine. As a member- owner - and not just a paying customer - you are entitled to know how your business operates. Victory Electric considers it an obligation to inform you about your business on a timely and regular basis. The best way to do that is through what you are reading right now in Kansas Country Living. Victory Electric is one of 22 electric cooperatives in Kansas providing this magazine to their members, each co-op with its own customized newsletter inserted into the centerspread of the magazine. This newsletter is written and created by employees in your local office and is designed to keep you updated on the latest news of the local cooperative. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact Jerry or Jerri at 620.227.2139 or 800.279.7915.

Do We Owe You Money?

Victory Electric allocates capital credits to members each year, and we have many members and former members who have not claimed their capital credit monies.

Please take a look at the following document to see if we owe you money. If you find your name on the list, please contact Victory Electric at 620.227.2139 or 800.279.7915 to claim your capital credits. Click here for a list of people who have outstanding capital credits.

As a member-owner, you have a share in the earnings of your not-for-profit electric cooperative. Victory’s rates are set to bring in enough money to pay operating costs, make payments on any loans, and provide an emergency reserve. Any revenues over and above the cost of doing business are considered “margins” and are returned to you, the member-owner, in the form of “capital credits.”

These margins represent an interest-free loan of operating capital by the membership to the cooperative. This capital allows The Victory Electric Cooperative to finance operations with the intent that this capital will be repaid to you in later years.  This repayment represents the monies that you receive in capital credits, some of which is still waiting to be claimed.

Cold Weather Rule: Nov. 1 to March 31

Cooperative members who are unable to pay their electric service bills during the cold weather period may qualify for this program, provided they fulfill certain good faith requirements when attempting to pay.

The requirements members must meet to qualify for the program are summarized below.

  • Members must notify the cooperative and state their inability to pay their service bill in full.
  • Members must apply to federal, state, local or other financial assistance programs for which they may be eligible to receive aid in paying utility bills.
  • Members and the cooperative will reach a mutually agreeable payment arrangement.

Please note that failure to follow the above requirements, illegally diverting utility service, receiving service by tampering, or defaulting on a payment agreement, will disqualify the member from receiving the benefits under the Cold Weather Rule.

In no event will the cooperative disconnect a service if the temperature is forecast to fall below 35° Fahrenheit, or be in the mid 30s or colder within 24-hours following the time of disconnection.

The Cold Weather Rule is to ensure human health and safety are not unreasonably endangered during the cold weather months.

Non-Domestic Bills Mailed in November

The Victory Electric Cooperative Association, Inc., will be reading the meters in October for the fence chargers and small watering loads (among other small rural electric loads) which we classify as non-domestic services.

These bills are mailed once a year and consist of the usage for kilowatt-hours consumed in the last year from November 2007 to October 2008.

If you have any questions or problems with any of these billings, come by or call us at (800) 279-7915.
